Writing Coach

Ivy League writing coach specialising in college admissions essays, analytical writing, and argumentation skills.
What I help students achieve
Many capable students understand their coursework but struggle to express their ideas clearly and persuasively in writing. That gap stays hidden until the moments that matter most, final exams and college applications, where it quietly costs them. My work focuses on closing it by helping students develop the kind of independent thinking and argumentation skills that get results in the classroom, in exams, and in the admissions process.
In an age where AI can produce a passable first draft in seconds, the ability to think and argue independently has only become rarer, and more valuable. The students who can do it stand out, and admissions officers and examiners are increasingly trained to tell the difference. That is what I teach.
Students typically improve in building clear arguments, organising complex ideas into structured essays, close reading and textual analysis, revising drafts effectively, and writing with clarity and intellectual confidence.

What I work on
College admissions essays
Primary offeringThe essay is where a student's voice either comes through or doesn't. I work with students from first ideas through final draft, helping them produce essays that are genuinely theirs and genuinely strong. Families typically begin in the summer before senior year. I am now taking on students for the current application cycle.
Ongoing writing coaching
Year-roundFor students who want to become genuinely stronger writers, whether the goal is acing humanities coursework, preparing for exams, or simply developing real skill and confidence on the page. This includes work on argument, analysis, structure, and voice across essays, literature, and history, as well as longer-term enrichment for those who want to grow as writers over time rather than for any single deadline.
Why work with me
Individual attention is what actually moves the needle.
Agencies prioritize volume, and they can afford to let any one student slip. I work with a small number of students at a time, the same coach from first session to final draft, which means consistent focus, thorough feedback, and a genuine understanding of each student's voice and goals. My students' results are what my reputation rests on, so your child's success is entirely my own.
Six years of working closely with students at selective schools across New York, New Jersey, and the Middle East has made one thing clear: the students who improve most are the ones who receive sustained, individual attention from someone who knows their work well.
Families who take admissions seriously treat writing coaching the way they treat SAT prep: not as a luxury, but as a baseline. The ones who get results find someone qualified and start early.
How it works
Simple, focused, one-on-one.
- 01Sessions take place via video call, allowing time for discussion, drafting, and revision within a single meeting. I work remotely with families across the United States and internationally.
- 02Between sessions I provide written feedback on drafts so students can continue improving their work independently.
- 03I work with a limited number of students each term to ensure consistent attention and genuine progress.
- 04The first session is offered at a reduced rate so you can assess the fit before committing.
About
Yousef Zalabany
I graduated summa cum laude from Princeton University, where my studies focused on history, literature, and analytical writing in the humanities. I have spent six years working with students at selective schools, helping them develop the independent thinking and argumentation skills that last well beyond any single assignment.
I work with a small number of students at a time because that is the only way to do this well.
I have capacity for a small number of students for the summer.
